Pipelines are the safest way to transport energy

The relative safety of pipelines vis-à-vis road and rail, makes pipelines the primary mode of transportation for crude oil, petroleum products, industrial gases and natural gas.

Hydrogen and energy

Hydrogen is today enjoying unprecedented momentum. The world should not miss this unique chance to make hydrogen an important part of our clean and secure energy future.
Dr. Fatih Birol, Executive Director IEA

Fluxys SA and Fluxys Belgium SA

Headquartered in Belgium, Fluxys is a fully independent gas infrastructure company active in gas transmission and storage and liquefied natural gas terminalling. As a purpose-led company Fluxys together with all its stakeholders contributes to a better society by shaping a bright energy future. People, industry and societies all need energy to thrive and progress. Fluxys accommodates this need: they put energy in motion through their infrastructure. They move natural gas while paving the way to transport in their infrastructure hydrogen, biomethane or any other carbon-neutral energy carrier of the future.

Fluxys Belgium is a subsidiary of Fluxys and responsible for the operation and maintenance of over 4000 km of pipelines throughout Belgium, the gas storage site in Loenhout and the liquefied natural gas terminal in Zeebrugge.

Since the beginning of his professional career in 2006, Jurgen has worked for Fluxys. Following a career as Inventory Controller (ensuring the right materials and equipment get to the right place at the right) and upon completion of his “Master of Pipeline Technology” studies he moved to the engineering department in 2012 to take office as Study Engineer “Piping & Mechanical”. Following a secondment to C4Gas SAS (2017-2019), he filled the position of green gas engineer, defining the infrastructure requirements for the transportation of carbon-neutral energy carriers. Since January 2022, he is working as Installations Design Manager, leading a team of about 18 designers that create deliverables for design and as-built in domains such as piping, civil works, electricity and instrumentation.

C4Gas SAS

C4Gas SAS is a subsidiary of Fluxys Europe BV and GRTgaz SA, set up in 2002 with the purpose of improving purchasing and increasing supply chain efficiencies in the transportation pipelines industry. C4Gas SAS cooperates with its customers and processes their sourcing requirements.

In terms of Supplier Quality Assurance for pipes, pipe coating, valves, fittings and flanges, C4Gas SAS manages the supplier qualification process for its partners and customers. C4Gas also manages the global performance assessment of each supplier through a common process.

Apart from the sourcing and quality assurance activities, C4Gas SAS provides services related to market information, specification screening and harmonisation and development of common contract formats.

From March 2017 till summer 2019, Jurgen was seconded by Fluxys to take office as Technical Manager.

Pipeliner / Master of Pipeline Technology (MPT) / MSc in Pipeline Technology

The “Master of Pipeline Technology” programme provides practice-oriented industry education with a multidisciplinary approach. During this programme one learns not only the technical aspects of pipeline transport and their mutual relationship, but also the social, organisational and societal aspects of the industry.

Following his participation as student in the period 2008-2012, Jurgen is currently involved as lecturer on “pipeline coating”
